Decision to give leave two days in a year published in Gazette

May 10, 2022, The government has published a notice in the Gazette giving leave two days a week. The decision to grant leave on Sunday and Monday has been published in the Gazette by the Ministry of Home Affairs.



The cabinet had decided to grant leave two days a week on April 27. The government has decided to give leave two days a week for testing but has extended the office hours. Office hours are set for May 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

A study committee formed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has initially openly supported the recommendations of some government and public bodies, while others have said that the provisions used in the past are not relevant.

In Nepal, in 2056 BS, the then Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai-led government had decided to give leave to government offices in the Kathmandu Valley on Saturdays and Sundays, two days a week.

The committee headed by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism Kamal Prasad Bhattarai has stated that it has made recommendations from various angles. The government estimates that between seven and eight million people will be on leave two days a week, and only about 10 percent of them will be able to go out for a day, while an estimated seven to eight million people will be out. “Everywhere you go in your village, in another district or in a tourist destination, it drives economic activity,” Bhattarai said.
