Sep 15, 2022, In order to discourage the illegal import, sale, distribution and use of mobile sets and to further organize them, tracking/blocking of stolen and lost mobile sets and ensuring that such mobiles do not operate within Nepal,

the MDMS system is implemented by the Nepal Telecommunication Authority to inform all concerned.

Mobile device management system is a centralized government-owned system to keep a record of any and all phones and similar electronic accessories that enter the country—via their unique IMEI number(s). This includes smartphones, feature phones, bar phones, tablets, etc.

Phones not registered at the NTA cannot be used in the country. This applies to new phones being brought into the country. Old phones will be registered automatically, say NTA.

NTA has asked people to only buy phones that have been registered. To check if the phone has been registered or not, people can visit mdms.nta.gov.np and put in the phone’s IMEI number.

When purchasing a mobile, it is requested that the mobile set be purchased only if it is registered/not registered in MDMS system of Nepal Telecommunication Authority (mdms.nta.gov.np). Also, mobile importers/sellers are informed that before importing mobiles, they must take the approval of the authority and sell only mobiles that are registered with the authority.
